All this month, Pacific Park is remembering the highlights from a quarter-century of fun on the Pier during a month-long anniversary commemoration. Follow Pacific Park on Twitter and Facebook to see archival photos and learn about the modern history of the Park. From the grand opening and reopening of the Pacific Wheel to world-records and a long-since closed mini-golf course, you can learn and share your memories and reflections of visiting the Park.

2021 is a momentous year for Pacific Park. In addition to celebrating 25 years since first opening, there is more celebration to share with the return of ride operations following an unprecedented 13-month closure of the amusement park due to COVID-19. Ride operations resumed on April 2, 2021, as a result of collaboration on safety guidelines with local and state officials based on the Blueprint for a Safer Economy. Pacific Park strives to navigate the situation safely with the wellbeing of everyone associated with the Park including hundreds of employees being welcomed back to the Pier.

Although things are working a little differently on the Pier with rules about where to stand in line and how many guests can be on the rides, the entire Pacific Park team is grateful for the support of City of Santa Monica officials and appreciates everyone’s efforts to return open access to the Pier. Building on its 25-year operation and presence on the Santa Monica Pier, Pacific Park will continue to operate with the health and safety of guests and employees at the forefront of planning and operations, which will be guided by health experts and industry standards.

For more information about this month-long celebration, head on over to Twitter or Facebook and hit follow. A new post with a reflection from each year of the Park’s operation will be posted every day starting with 2021 and ending with 1996 – the first year Pacific Park opened on the Pier. You can also post your memories and share your favorite moments from the Pier. Just use the hashtag #PacificPark!

In the background of a news report, a lady wipes out on the bike path when she tries film herself riding a bike with no hands.

"It looks like living right on the beach was very popular even back as far as 1929, when this photo was taken from the top of the Santa Monica palisades looking south toward the pier where we can see the rollercoaster and the La Monica Ballroom."

A head on collision closed Pacific Coast Highway in both directions for about 2 hours at the California Incline this afternoon.

Some rapper called Choppa got into a fight with a fan on the bike path in Santa Moinca.

The rapper and his crew were appraoched by a fan who asked for a photo and was denied, so the fan said something that offended the rapper.

So the offended rapper charged the fan, but the fan f-cked him up with a shot to the face. Luckily for the beat rapper, he had his crew of 5 guys jump on the fan.

As the video below shows, the fan held his ground getting jumped by the 5 guys (plus the hurt rapper trying to jump back in) and gets up like it didn't really faze him.

Of course the internet called out the wanna-be tough rapper:

The hurt rapper then goes on his Twitter after lots of Twiiter folks make fun of him for getting beat in a fight he started.

At John Adams Middle School/Will Rogers Elementary in Santa Monica, some anti-mask activists started protesting public safety guidelines requiring masks in school.

They argue with passersby, parents, and even some young children from the school.

Then some students from Santa Monica High come troll them with a counter-protest, which makes them finally leave.

Beach Clean Up this Sunday in Santa Monica, hosted by GO Surf LA.

According to Surfline "the biggest south swell of the season" is coming and it has a name!!!!!!!

The "La Bomba Swell", they are calling it.

"This biggest south swell of the season so far is set to light up every south-facing nook and cranny from Peru to Canada."

Saturday, April 24th: 4’+ waves on average, standouts up to 5-7’+. Favorable morning winds.
Solid, long period new S swell (190-170) peaks. For the zones that maximize straight S swell (southern Ventura into North LA), this should be a notch+ larger than the Easter swell with widespread chest-head high surf as good spots go overhead+. Light/variable wind prevails through the first half of the morning. Wind gradually trends onshore from the SW, light+ to moderate W wind developing through the afternoon. Wind drops off for most regions in the evening but don’t expect as much of a cleanup as Friday evening.

Sunday, April 25th: 4’+ waves on average, standouts up to 5-7’+. Light morning winds.
Solid, long period new S swell (190-170) lingers. Not expecting size to be down much from Saturday for the zones that maximize straight S swell (southern Ventura into North LA), with widespread chest-head high surf as good spots go overhead+ in the morning. Wind not looking as favorable with light/variable to light onshore wind to start the morning, gradually picking up into midday with light+ to moderate W/SW wind by midday, but there should still be some windows of decent surf to be had. Afternoon wind is looking even worse with moderate to breezy westerly flow for most exposures.

On Wednesday , April 7th, Lifeguards in Santa Monica responded to assist a dolphin that was repeatedly beaching itself. After trying to assist it in the dolphin back into the water, Marine Animal Rescue made the decision to try to transport the sick dolphin to a local treatment facility. Unfortunately shortly after transport, the dolphin succumbed to its illness.

As a reminder, sick marine mammals often come ashore to rest and it is best to give them space when they do so! Notify the nearest Lifeguard as they work closely with local marine animal experts that will be able to provide further assistance to these animals.

Mike, aka German in Venice, vlogs about daily life in Venice Beach, and the nearby communities.

"Today I visit the world famous Muscle Beach in Santa Monica, where it all started. Then I went to Venice, I sadly have to report that the gym is gone. Most of the outside activities are still closed down. I matched up pictures of Arnold Schwarzenegger when he first came to Venice Beach. After this, I visit the famous Gold's Gym, and I also saw all the homeless encampments around Gol'ds Gym in Venice."

On March 28, 2021 at about 10:53 PM, Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) officers were dispatched to the area of the 1700 block of Ocean Ave to investigate a report of an Armed Robbery. Officers met with a couple who explained that they were riding scooters on Ocean Ave., when they were accosted by three males. During their encounter, one of the males lifted his shirt and displayed what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband. Two of the suspects began to physically assault the male victim and at one point one of the suspects snatched the cellphone from the female victim and threw it to the ground, preventing her from calling for help. Both suspects then fled the area.

SMPD officers shortly thereafter located Halfman and Johnson. They were both identified by the victims as the suspects who assaulted them. Officers recovered a handgun with a high capacity magazine (15 rounds) on suspect Johnson. Officers later discovered he had a no-bail warrant from Wisconsin. Both subjects were taken into custody without incident.

On March 30, 2021 the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office filed the following charges against two felony assault suspects:

Lavonn Shawn Johnson, a 21-year-old white male from Wisconsin - One count of 245(A)(4) PC – Assault to Commit Great Bodily Injury, 136.1 PC – Preventing Someone from Reporting a Crime, and 25850(A) PC – Possession of a Loaded Firearm.

Treyton Thomas Halfman, a 21-year-old black male from Wisconsin - one count of 245(A)(4) PC – Assault to Commit Great Bodily Injury.
