On Saturday, ZJ Boarding House held their annual Haunted Heats Surf Contest. As always, it took place in between Towers 26 and 27 in Ocean Park. This year we saw surfers dressed up as the Ninja Turtles in their Pizza Van, a Banana dude, a ghost, Trump and his Tower, a Tourist, Wonder Woman, a pair of Solo Cups, and more. Here are some of the 400 photos we got from the contest:

You can find about 400 more photos from this contest, all full size and in high-resolution, in this huge photo gallery:

An impressive $52K was raised at the 12th Skate the Coast event, hosted by Boarding for Breast Cancer. 160 people turned up to skate, bike or roll 19 miles from Santa Monica pier to Dive ‘n’ Surf in Rendondo Beach. The event kicked off with a Friday night party in Arbor, Venice, and the journey took place Saturday morning.

This past weekend, over 160 people attended Boarding for Breast Cancer’s (B4BC), 12th Annual Skate the Coast event raising over $52K for its breast cancer education, prevention and survivorship programs. The event encourages attendees to skate, bike, or roll 19 miles along the Southern California Coast, starting in Santa Monica and ending with a festival at Dive N’ Surf in Redondo Beach, Calif., while raising money for the cause.

Friday night, the Skate the Coast event kicked off with a party at Arbor Venice in Marina Del Rey and participants and friends enjoyed killer tunes by Dane Druess and enjoyed some tasty Traeger BBQ complemented with delicious organic juices provided by Suja.

Saturday morning, participants met up at the starting line at the Santa Monica Pier. This year, many new faces joined B4BC’s seasoned veterans including Shannon Dunn Downing, Carabeth Burnside and Jen O’Brian. With an array of participants from 6 months to 72 years old, the B4BC supporters cruised down the coast stopping at 3 hydration stops along the way at Marina Del Rey, Dockweiller Beach and Hermosa Beach.

Participants rested and refuelled with Suja Juices, Clif bars and snacks from Thrive market before rolling out to the next stop. Attendees crossed the finish line at Dive n Surf around 1:30 PM and celebrated the 19-mile journey with a block party in front of the store.

Participants, along with friends and family, were treated to a tasty lunch from Traeger Grills, Beyond Meat and Thrive Market as they listened to some great music from Truth Cartel and The Sendaways. Everyone shared stories of their journey and who they were riding for and the afternoon concluded with a huge raffle, awards and acknowledgements for our top fundraisers and fundraising teams.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and there is still time to donate to the Skate the Coast fund. Fundraising will be open until October 31 which can be done here: Skate The Coast Donations

Untamed Daughters is an event experience, conceptualized by Changing Tides Foundation and GrlSwirl, to bring together untamed, unconventional and adventurous women for a day of community, environment, action sports and empowerment.

This was the first-ever Untamed Daughters event which took place in Venice beach in the summer of 2019! Some of the special guests and attendees included: Rochelle Ballard, Elena Hight, Lex Weinstein, Sian Hurst and Laura Thornhill Caswell.

The event would not have been made possible without the support of Rothys , Vuori, Marine Layer, GoPro, Mizu, & The Butcher's Daughter. Huge thanks to all the sponsors who donated to our goodie bags and to the day as well: Boz Tea, Zola, ClifBar, Leus Towels, Aloha Collection, Simply Straws, Avasol & Summer of Surf. Thanks to our after-party sponsors Juneshine, Lone Wolfs , Carver, Big Daddy's Pizza, Dersu, King Archie Band & Winter.

Episode Info:
In July of 2019 I participated in The Call To The Wall longboarding event at Surfrider Beach in Malibu, California. I thought it was a proper place to get plenty of perspectives from a diverse group of longboard surfers. From the young groms to the middle aged dudes to the young women to the old fellows. I asked everyone the same question. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF COMPETITIVE PROFESSIONAL LONGBOARDING TO LOOK LIKE?

On this episode you will hear a wide array of great answers.

Gracias to my listeners and sponsors!
