The Santa Monica Pier Paddle is now called the Santa Monica Pier 360 Ocean Sports & Beach Festival . And the name isn't the only thing new, it's now a 2-day event and they added an "epic, gravity-defying skate experience", whatever that means. Here's the press release about the skateboard event:

Red Bull is bringing an epic, gravity-defying skate experience to Pier 360 featuring local legend, Jeff Ho, and top skaters from around Los Angeles. Attendees can watch skaters 360 over the Pacific and if they want to get in on the action, they can attend demos and workshops led by local skate legends.

It all happens on June 23-24. The SUP and Paddleboard contest registrations are open now, no word on the skate event yet. More info at Santa Monica Pier 360 Ocean Sports & Beach Festival

On Saturday, Tower 28 in Santa Monica was the spot where A Walk On Water held their first local event of 2018.

A Walk On Water provides water therapy through guided surf instruction to specials needs children. Surfing is used as a tool to gain self confidence skills and promote the therapeutic benefits of the sport’s positive effects. Children experience the true “stoke” of surfing and a sense of accomplishment as family and friends cheer them on from the beach. Brothers and sisters also participate, helping to solidify an often strained bond between siblings. These surf events focus on both the athletes and their families, who are treated to a well-deserved day of relaxation, healthy food and lifestyle guidance.
