Due to possible lightning strikes, L.A. County beaches are closed from Zuma to Marina Del Rey

UPDATE: LA County beaches have now reopened after being closed due to a threat of lightning. Strong surf conditions continue though.

Here's an update on that news that a lifegaurd boat got stolen on Tuesday.

"Assault with a weapon call on citizen, cops came and left, street still blocked by debris." reports Alexander Poe.

Dangerous Seas Developing! Strong S-SE winds w/steep waves 14-18ft max for coastal waters w the approaching storm. Biggest impacts to northern waters, S winds gusts to 50kts N of Pt Sal. Tune into the forecast for updates and avoid these conditions.

One of the many weather highlights we have is continuing high surf. We have High Surf Advisories out through this evening for Santa Barbara South Coast and LA/Ventura beaches and tonight for the Central Coast. It will subside through the day before increasing again Wed.

Just heard a helicopter pilot on the Santa Monica Airport Tower frequency say he was heading out over the water to chase a stolen lifeguard boat. Never a dull moment in LA.

Because of the recent rainfall, Los Angeles County Health Officer, Muntu Davis, MD, MPH, is cautioning residents that bacteria, chemicals, debris, trash, and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas are likely to contaminate ocean waters at and around discharging storm drains, creeks, and rivers after a rainfall. Individuals who enter the water in these areas could become ill.

This advisory will be in effect until at least Wednesday, January 27 at 7:30 a.m. This advisory may be extended depending on further rainfall.
