From Santa Monica Close Up:

"On the morning of April 1, 2024, Santa Monica Police Officers responded to a distressing scene at the intersection of Ocean and Colorado Avenues. At about 5:30 a.m., a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle resulted in a fatality.

The driver of the vehicle, who remained at the scene, is currently assisting with the investigation, according to the Santa Monica Police Department's official statement. Unfortunately, the pedestrian involved in the incident was pronounced dead at the scene. The process of identifying the victim is underway but has not been completed.

Traffic was temporarily rerouted as authorities carried out their investigation procedures. The intersection, having been closed off for some time, has now been reopened and traffic has resumed as normal. The Santa Monica Police Department has not released further details at this time but will provide updates as the investigation continues."

The Lost Hills Sheriff's Department confirmed the statements people have been posting online about the person who was hit by a truck on Pacific Coast Highway. “At this time in the investigation, all evidence leads us to believe this incident is a suicide and not an accidental traffic collision; however, the investigation is ongoing,” the Sheriff's press release said. The man has been identified as Dimitri Failla, 32 years old.

Several witnesses have also stated that person was a homeless man that just ran right out onto the highway.
