The Santa Monica Police Department invites residents, families, businesses, and visitors to join us for National Night Out 2026, a free evening dedicated to strengthening neighborhood relationships, building trust, and celebrating the community we serve.

This year's event will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Santa Monica City Hall, 1685 Main Street, and features the movie-inspired theme, "Lights. Camera. Community."

National Night Out is an annual nationwide campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. The event provides an opportunity for residents to meet the officers, professional staff, and community partners who work together every day to keep Santa Monica safe while learning more about the programs, services, and resources available throughout the city.

Guests can enjoy an evening of family-friendly activities, including:

• Police vehicle displays

• Interactive games and activities for children

• Meet-and-greets with officers and professional staff

• Community resource booths

• Food, entertainment, and giveaways

• Crime prevention and emergency preparedness information

• Opportunities to explore specialized police equipment and programs

Hosted at Santa Monica City Hall, National Night Out brings together residents from across the community for an evening of fun, conversation, and connection. Whether meeting an officer for the first time, exploring a police motorcycle or patrol vehicle, collecting officer autographs in a special kids' autograph book, or learning more about public safety programs, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

"Public safety begins with relationships," said Chief Darrick Jacob. "National Night Out is an opportunity to meet your officers, connect with your neighbors, and strengthen the partnerships that help make Santa Monica a safer and more resilient community. We look forward to welcoming everyone for an evening of conversation, learning, and fun."

Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. Free parking will be available in the Civic Parking Structure.

The Malibu Arts Commission curated a community art exhibition, Carving Canvas, at the Malibu City Gallery, located at Malibu City Hall. The exhibition features local artists and celebrates and pays tribute to Malibu’s deep roots in surf and skate culture.

Join the City of Malibu Arts Commission on July 10 at City Hall for the opening reception.

The free public reception will take place on Friday, July 10, at 6:00 PM at Malibu City Hall and will showcase original artwork by local artists inspired by Malibu’s iconic surf and skate heritage.

The exhibition coincides with the completion of Malibu’s new skate park at Malibu Bluffs Park and highlights the many ways art and recreation bring people together and strengthen community connections.

Following the reception, Carving Canvas will be on display in the Malibu City Gallery from July 13 through August 21. Admission is free.

The City of Malibu officially opened the gates to its new skate park on Saturday, June 20, at its ribbon cutting ceremony. The event also featured skate demos courtesy of X Games Club Los Angeles athletes, including Olympic medalist and local Tom Schaar. The City applauds the persistence and dedication of the community, staff, commissions, and elected officials that worked together tirelessly to make this park a reality for generations to come. Cycotic Youth's free concert at Venice Beach on Go Skateboarding Day 2026. The skateboard mosh pit gets wild.

Josh “Bagel” Klassman is a photographer and longtime Venice Beach local who has spent decades documenting the people, places, and subcultures that helped define one of California’s most legendary neighborhoods.

In this video, Bagel talks about growing up around Venice Beach, photographing the local skate, surf, graffiti, and punk scenes, and witnessing the changes that transformed Venice from a rough-and-tumble beach town into an international destination. The conversation covers the Pavilion, the Pits, the breakwater, the boardwalk, local characters, street photography, punk rock, surfing, skateboarding, and the importance of documenting places before they disappear.
