Trancas Bridge Construction

Work continues on Caltrans' Trancas Creek Bridge Replacement, requiring intermittent lane closures of the far-right lane and shoulder in both directions of PCH from Guernsey Ave. to Trancas Canyon Rd. weekdays 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Nightime work is scheduled on Monday, April 18 and Tuesday, April 19, 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM as well.

Expect lighting, noise, and movement of workers and vehicles in and around the work area. Cyclists, motorists and pedestrians should proceed with caution. Motorists must adhere to the 30 mph temporary speed limit, with signs posted. Fines for speeding are doubled in highway construction or maintenance zones when workers are present under the California Vehicle Code. There may be unplanned intermittent lane and shoulder closures.

As part of the Caltrans Trancas Bridge Replacement Project, a temporary traffic signal will be installed at Guernsey Avenue and PCH, with a pedestrian crosswalk across PCH. It is expected to be functioning in mid-April.

Caltrans is proposing to replace the existing 96-year old, 85-foot wide, 90-foot long concrete bridge, which was constructed in 1927 to span Trancas Creek on PCH in Malibu, with a new concrete bridge, which will be 105 feet wide by 240 feet long. The new bridge will provide two 12-foot traffic lanes, bike lanes, separate pedestrian lanes and 10-foot shoulders in each direction. Northbound and southbound traffic will be separated by a six-foot striped median. Completion is scheduled for summer of 2024.
