Ballona Creek Trash Interceptor 007

Los Angeles County Public Works is pleased to share that the Ballona Creek Trash Interceptor 007 was successful in collecting trash and debris from this week’s storm event. The Interceptor’s solar charging system is fully operational, and its collection bins have one-third of their capacity remaining for the harvesting of additional floating material through the weekend.

Offloading of trash and debris is currently scheduled for Monday, January 9, pending favorable water and weather conditions. Once the material is offloaded, LA County Public Works will provide another update with the estimated amount of trash and debris prevented from reaching local beaches and the Santa Monica Bay.

Interceptor 007 has prevented more than 36.7 tons of trash and debris from reaching the ocean since its official launch in Oct. 2022, and it is prepared for a succession of storm events forecast for the week of January 9.
