Speeding Teenage Driver Kills Nobu Chef in PCH Crash

Ryo Uchimiya, a 51-year-old veteran sushi chef at Nobu Malibu, tragically died on October 3, 2026, when a 16-year-old driver in a speeding Range Rover SUV crashed into his parked car along the Pacific Coast Highway.

Uchimiya had arrived at work early and was resting inside his parked car on the shoulder on the 22600 block Pacific Coast Highway before a shift. A 16-year-old boy driving a gray Range Rover was speeding and swerved across the white fog line at high speed, slamming into the back of Uchimiya's vehicle and pushing it into another parked car.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office reported that Uchimiya died from multiple blunt-force injuries

Authorities noted that the juvenile driver survived the crash and showed no signs of driving under the influence. No immediate arrests or charges were filed as the investigation continued.

Department of Motor Vehicles records showed that the Range Rover involved in the collision is leased to Hollywood film composer Harry Gregson-Williams, though the exact connection between the composer and the teenage driver remained under investigation. According to his profile on IMDB, Gregson-Williams is one of Hollywood's most sought-after and prolific composers whose long list of film and television credits include the “Shrek” franchise, “The Chronicles of Narnia,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” “The Martian,” “Man on Fire,” “Chicken Run” and “Gladiator II.”

Uchimiya was a beloved, humble, and highly talented sushi chef who worked at Nobu Malibu for 25 years. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
