The Coronavirus Lockdown claims another local event.

"It is with great sadness, we announce that the Malibu Chili Cook-Off hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu will not be taking place this year."

The organizers of Malibu Chili Cook-Off recently made the announcement about the annual Labor Day Weekend Event.

"This was a very difficult decision that we hoped would come to a different outcome. 2020 has been a tumultuous year, no doubt, and with the recent spikes in cases and the near future being unpredictable, we feel this is the best decision in interest of our community’s health and safety. We have weighed all possible options, and we cannot hold an event that may further jeopardize the well-being of our community."

According to Surfline, "Modest scale SW swell gradually picks up over the weekend, as little NW windswell lingers."

Sunday, August 9th: Small SW swell peaks, little NW windswell hangs on and some new S swell starts to show, for 2-3 surf, some better sets at top spots. AM winds are light. .
Modest scale SW swell tops out, as smaller NW windswell persists, and a fresh, long-period begins to join in, with knee-waist high waves at breaks with a good SW view. SW challenged areas get the smallest surf, mainly in the 1-2′ zone. Morning winds are mainly light/variable to light onshore (possibility for some light surface bump), then light+ to locally moderate onshore flow develops for the afternoon.

Monday, August 10th: New S/SSW swell builds for 3-5’+ surf in PM, leftover NW windswell mixes in. Light wind in the AM..
SSW trending S swell (195-180) is trending up all day with waist-shoulder high+ surf building through the morning — longer-period focal points should see some larger sets through the morning hours, inconsistent overall, but likely up to head high or so. Chest-head high sets show more frequently through the afternoon. Calm to light onshore winds early — generally clean conditions early but some spots may see a touch of surface bump. Winds are trending light+ onshore through the morning from the W. Light+ to locally moderate onshore winds pick up for the afternoon adding bump/texture at most spots.

The City Of Santa Monica made it known via their social media accounts that $100 tickets will be given to anyone not wearing a face mask. According to their statement, they are targeting certain areas first:

"Beginning this week, we’ll be doing targeted enforcement for face coverings in business districts and parks in Santa Monica. Save $100 and save your health by masking up."

But according to the City Of Santa Monica's Face Covering Requirement Page, face masks do not have to be worn 100% of the time, like when surfing or swimming. And if you're outside and not within 6' of other people, a face mask is not required, but a face mask "must be visible and ready to be immediately" when in certain public areas.

See the Face Covering Requirement Page for the complete requirements of when the must be worn and when they don't.
