Downtown Santa Monica is all dressed up for the holiday season! Join us for the Tree Lighting Ceremony, where Santa himself will light up our official holiday tree on Third Street Promenade. We'll also have live entertainment from Westside Ballet, Samohi Choir, Lincoln Middle School's Madrigals, and the SMC Emeritus Concert Band.

Downtown Santa Monica transforms with festive lights and decorations adorning the Third Street Promenade, 2nd and 4th Streets for the holiday season. Santa will make a special appearance for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, where he will illuminate the official City of Santa Monica holiday tree (located on the 1300 block of Third Street Promenade between Santa Monica Blvd and Arizona ) along with live entertainment from Westside Ballet, Samohi Choir and Lincoln Middle School’s Madrigals.

The official Grand Opening of Ice at Santa Monica takes place from 5 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 9. Come take part in the fun and festivities all under the starlit Santa Monica sky! Free test screening of the Shaka Film where you can be among the first to watch and give feedback!

Shaka, A Story of Aloha" is a feature-length documentary on the origin, meanings and uses of the iconic thumb and pinky gesture. You may know it from surfing, extreme sports, jui jitsu, traveling through Hawai’i or seeing celebs or politicians like Obama flashing it. The film features original music by Hawai’i music legend Henry Kapono, Exec-Produced by Bryan Spicer (producer/director Hawaii Five-O & Magnum PI), directed by Hawaiian film director Alex Bocchieri and produced/written by Steve Sue.

This test screening is an intimate affair being held at the historical Neutra Office Building, 2379 Glendale Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90039, USA. Be the first to catch a glimpse of this movie with a mission of sharing Aloha through the Shaka gesture. This in-person event promises an unforgettable experience including Q&A with producer/writer Steve Sue. Project Save Our Surf returns to Tower 26 to clean the beach. Buckets, gloves and light snacks will be provided.

Come join Project Save Our Surf for a fun afternoon of music and refreshments cleaning the beach. Buckets and gloves will also be provided for the cleanup. Connect with others in Los Angeles working to support our environment.

We have also partnered with Project Pop Drop to collect items for the homeless that we will be delivering to a homeless shelter on the last Saturday of the month (each month is a different shelter and details will be available at the cleanup for those who want to attend that event as well). We are collecting non- perishable foods and new toiletries, new socks, new underwear, new clothing etc.

Ocean Water Use Warning for Los Angeles County Beaches

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health cautions residents who are planning to visit the below Los Angeles County beaches to avoid swimming, surfing, and playing in ocean waters:

· Santa Monica Canyon Creek at Will Rogers State Beach 50 yards and 100 yards up and down the coast of the creek.

· Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey

The entire swim area.

· Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica

100 yards up and down the coast from the pier.

· Pico-Kenter storm drain at Santa Monica Beach. Santa Monica South Tower 20

These warnings have been issued due to bacterial levels exceeding health standards when last tested.

The city of Santa Monica will join the U.S. Army for a Veterans Day ceremony on Friday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. on the western half of the Santa Monica Pier parking deck.

The event is in its fourth year and will be the biggest yet, with exciting performances, flyovers and remarks from military and local elected officials. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

"As Santa Monica’s mayor, I have a great appreciation for the protections afforded to our community because of the selfless service of our military," Mayor Gleam Davis said. "And as the mother of a veteran myself, I know the physical and emotional costs that come with the job. I’m pleased to join with my community to take time to recognize the bravery and sacrifice of those who safeguard our freedoms at home and abroad."

The event program will include:
- Blackhawk and Chinook helicopters flyover
- West Point Drill Team demonstration
- The 300th Army Band performance
- Performance of “God Bless America” by Miss USO Heidi-Marie Ferren
- National anthem performed by singer Christena Rich
- Humvees & JLTVs display
- Concert by Army rock band Brave the Night and Rusty de la Croix blues band
- Keynote speech by Deputy Under Secretary of the Army Mario Diaz
- Remarks from Santa Monica Mayor Gleam Davis
- Remarks from Congressman Ted Lieu
- Soldier swearing-in ceremony by Major General Dianne Del Rosso
- Remarks from Principal Deputy Under Secretary for Benefits Michael Frueh

"We hope to do just that through our event at the world-famous Santa Monica Pier."orce the suspect out of the apartment. This suspect was located hiding on the roof of the building by an assisting LAPD helicopter where he was taken into custody. A firearm was also located in the area.
