More wave pool news, the already announced DSRT Surf Wave Pool is going to have some competition. A new one from WSL/Kelly Slater is now being planned. Probably will cost like $10,000+ a session, so if you got the moola, here's the news that just came out about it:

Kelly Slater is planning to build the world's largest man-made wave in the desert.

Plans for Coral Mountain, announced on Tuesday, feature the largest rideable open-barrel human-made wave in the world with technology from Kelly Slater Wave Company, a division of the World Surf League.

The 11-time world champion surfer is teaming with private real estate investment and development firm Meriwether Companies and Big Sky Wave Developments, founded by Michael B. Schwab, son of brokerage pioneer Charles Schwab.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2021 with the opening slated sometime in 2022, pending design and amended approval. The land was previously approved for 750 homes and an 18-hole golf course. The new proposal maintains the same density and will require less water than the previously approved golf course.

“We chose to do this project because it allows us to further build on our technology and also because one of our founding partners, Michael Schwab, is heading up the group running the project," Slater said in a statement.

"We’re excited to make another KSWaveCo design and I’m personally excited to create a new wave that will be a stand alone design that nowhere else in the world has. This can become the blueprint for new developments around waves and surf parks going forward and is in line with some of my original ideas from when we started this project. I can’t wait to get underway.”

The wave basin will be part of a 400-acre site in La Quinta, California, set at the base of Coral Mountain. The master-planned community in the Coachella Valley will include a full-service resort, residential homes, a private club, multiple dining venues and adventure sport offerings.

The $200 million complex will have a 150-room hotel and up to 600 homes in the $1 million to $5 million range. Access to amenities will be exclusively available to homeowners, hotel guests, members and their guests. Dining will be open to the public through reservations.

The centerpiece of the complex will be the 18 million-gallon wave basin that has room for roughly 25 surfers — about five on the main wave, 10 each on the smaller waves at the ends of the basin. It will feature waves for all levels of ability and preference.

“I originally invested with Kelly in 2013 for my own personal surfing progression,” Michael Schwab, said. “I had no idea the impact it would have on my life, and I realized immediately that I had to share this opportunity."

Besides selling exclusive PacSun collaborations – including upcoming lines with Playboy and Fear Of God Essentials – these landmark stores will have a dedicated “White Space” for a revolving flow of pop-up shops, workshops, performances, panels, and exhibits that brands and influencers will curate on a bi-monthly basis. Interactive video screens will search and showcase PacSun’s many collections, while the Los Angeles location features a dedicated denim room with 40 different denim styles.

“Our customers are young and informed,” says Chang. “Of course, digital connection is critical for our shoppers, but above convenience, PacSun fans crave community, and they use personal style and real-life experiences to help create theirs. We will continue to invest in strategic physical spaces – as well as innovations within the digital space – to provide our customers the forum for that community. Malibu Sharks Surf Team member Saxon Rhodes surfed her way to a first-place finish as two groups of Sharks surfers grabbed wins in the team’s last event of the season.

Rhodes, a senior and seasoned youth surfer, won the women’s shortboard bracket in the Scholastic Surf Series meet at the Tarpits in Carpinteria on Feb. 1. She outlasted five other surfers at the top of the division, including a teammate, to lead the Malibu Black squad (surfers at the top skill level) to a 60-27 victory over Palisades. The Malibu White group also won, downing Oak Park, 43-41.

Contending in the exhibition were surf squads also from Loyola, Oaks Christian, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica and Westlake high schools. The teenage wave riders vied in shortboard, longboard and bodyboard surfing brackets on waves that were around five or six feet in height.

The event was the fifth competition since October for the teams, which are all in the surf series’ LA to Santa Barbara High School division.

Vanessa Clark, also a Malibu Black member, placed one spot behind Rhodes in the women’s shortboard, while Malibu White surfer Whitney Shanahan placed fourth and her teammate Chole Rapf finished fifth. In the coed bodyboard, Malibu Black member Gavin Cross finished second and Malibu White surfer Kai Owens finished third. Malibu Black members Evan Kassoy and Sebastian Bluhm placed fourth and fifth in the men’s shortboard, respectively, and Cross finished third in the men’s longboard. Maxine Kelly, a Malibu Black surfer, finished fifth in women’s longboard, and Nicky Chittendon, a Malibu White member, finished sixth. "California produces some nice surf through the middle of the week off a mix of northwest and south-southwest swells, ranging from fun-size in Southern California to fairly solid in parts of Central and Northern California. Morning winds and conditions also look favorable for most areas."
