SMPD released an update on the Santa Monica Road Rage Shhoting.

On January 24, 2023, at approximately 3:42 PM, Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) Officers were flagged down by several people, who heard gunshots near 6th and Broadway. Officers located two vehicles, an SUV and a van, both were involved in a collision. The driver of the SUV, Emilio Reyes, appeared to have a gunshot wound to his upper arm.

SMPD Officers learned that the driver of the van, identified as Manuel Jaramillo, shot several rounds at Reyes. In response, Reyes intentionally rammed his SUV into Jaramillo’s van twice, while he was still inside. Reyes and Jaramillo are known to each other and were involved in an argument prior to the incident.

Reyes was transported to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury and has subsequently been discharged. The handgun used by Jaramillo was recovered, and both vehicles were towed to be processed by Forensics. There are no outstanding suspects.

Manuel Jaramillo-Heredia, a 52-year-old male from Inglewood, and Emilio Reyes a 43-year-old from Los Angeles were both booked for Attempted Murder. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office on January 26, 2023, for filing consideration.

Anyone with any additional information pertaining to this subject or incident is strongly encouraged to contact SMPD Detective George Burciaga at 310-458- 8932 or the Watch Commander (24 hours) at 310-458-8426.

The store plans to shut down by the end of the month. Everything in the is 10% to 25% off, with a few of the seasonal stuff at 90%. But don't rush over thinking there's tons of good bargains. It's 25% off the full prices right now, which ends up being more then their usually Vons Club pricing and what seems like most of the items.

The buildling will be destroyed, and the 710 Broadway project will be built on the land.

The 710 Broadway will be an eight-story apartment and shopping complex, with a new Vons on the ground floor.

According to the developer, 710 Broadway will deliver 280 residential units, of which 30% will be reserved for low-income and middle-income households, a 53,500 square foot grocery store, and approximately 34,000 square feet of neighborhood-serving retail to Santa Monica. The new grocery store will be prominently located at the corner of Lincoln and Broadway and will continue to be operated by the Albertsons Companies. The additional community-serving retail will activate the corner of 7th and Broadway.

710 Broadway consists of market rate and affordable housing above the ground floor grocery store, plus additional local serving retail/restaurant/fitness uses located on both the ground floor and below-grade, and subterranean parking. The 280 residential units offer a range of layouts from studios to three-bedrooms. 84 of the residential units will be deed restricted as affordable for 30% Income Households, 50% Income Households, 80% Income Households or Moderate Income Households.

The grocery store is approximately 53,500 square feet on the ground floor, with 1,500 square feet of outdoor dining space and additional below-grade storage. 710 Broadway also offers approximately 34,000 square feet of additional local serving retail/ restaurant/fitness uses with approximately 523 bicycle spaces and 354 vehicle parking spaces. Sustainable landscaping and open spaces will be located along Lincoln Boulevard and Broadway.

Join us at the beach to witness the King Tides. As a community, we will observe and capture photos for the California Coastal Commission.

We will gather at 8:15 am by Heal the Bay's aquarium to prepare to fan out across the beach. The main focus will be to capture great photos of the ocean's tide at its peak. This will help scientific research on sea-level rise and its effect on our local beaches and infrastructure. When we are finished, we will head over to Heal the Bay's aquarium for educational demonstrations. We will learn about the planetary forces that cause the King Tides to occur. We will have a community-based discussion about the effects of climate on our oceans. Light snacks and coffee will be provided to the community.

This is a collaboration with the California Coastal Commission, which is gathering King Tides photos along the California coast for their research. This is a joint project between Heal the Bay and Climate Action Santa Monica. Everyone is invited to join!

Please remember to exercise caution whenever you are by the water. Tides will be extra high on this day.

This Friday, January 6th, Bay Street Boards has the special chance to premiere a movie that’s 50 years old and never been seen.

More than a surf movie, Super Ocho 1973 follows a few 18 year olds adventuring through the tropics in search of the best waves and the best time. Shot on Super 8 by Venezuelan surfer and videographer Ramon Moreno , this slice of history features the father of Bay Street Boards's owners, among a cast of crazies as they traverse through several tropical countries. Come down to Bay Street Boards on Friday for a flashback to the past, and enjoy some vintage surfing with some food and drinks! This Friday, January 6th at 7pm.

The Santa Monica Police Department’s Traffic Unit will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint on December 30, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 3:00 AM at an undisclosed location within the city limits.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Lieutenant Cody Green said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”

The Santa Monica Police Department is committed to keeping the traveling public safe. The safety of our community is and always will be our mission. We are looking for impaired drivers because driving under the influence is dangerous and puts others on the road at risk.

The Santa Monica Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal. If you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license. moves!
