Another hurricane swell brought brought some big fun waves to the Venice Pier on Saturday morning. These photos were shot by Six12 Media. These are just some of the 300 photos. Tomorrow (Tuesday) from 6:30AM to 8:30AM, a few people from UCLA are continuing to conduct a study on surfers health and bacteria that they are exposed to while surfing. They are looking for volunteers who regularly get in the ocean. If you’re heading to the Venice Breakwater for a surf, stop by the big blue UCLA table and sign up to participate. It will take 10 minutes, please come BEFORE surfing! Tell your friends! . . .

You can expect:
1) Enrollment questionnaire: this has a brief demographic section, section on surfing locations and frequency, section on recent antibiotic usage etc...
2) 2 nasal swabs: instructions will be given on how to swab your own nose, one swab per nostril.

This will likely take less than ten minutes to answer the survey questions and take the nasal swabs.

On Saturday Boarding 4 Breast Cancer held their annual Skate The Coast event. A fundraising skate event where the participants skate, or bike, from the Santa Monica Pier down the coast to Redondo beach. This year, they raise $48,550!! That will go towards B4BC’s education and prevention programs and their young Survivor Mountain/ Ocean wellness retreats. The Venice Surf-A-Thon turns 25 this year! One quarter century of surfing, music, art, good fun and much more! The Venice Surf-A-Thon is more than a just a surf contest!

On Thursday September 26, there will be the Venice Surf-A-Thon Sponsor/Volunteer Appreciation Night & Art Show.

Check out a few of the artists's work in the show. Come on out and celebrate the people that have made and make this one of a kind event happen every year! You may or may not know that Venice Surf-A-Thon sponsors not only many surfers that cannot afford the entry fee to the contest but also a small school in Minadano P.I. Please come on out celebrate the volunteers, purchase some very unique and fine art and help out a few kids receive a basic education in a jungle very far away.

Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) will host their 11th Annual Skate the Coast presented by Suja on September 29, 2018 - a 19 mile Skate - Bike - Roll from Santa Monica to Redondo Beach to support B4BC's education, prevention and survivorship programs. The event kicks-off on Friday evening Sept 28 with a registration party at Arbor Collective in Venice with live music, BBQ by Traeger Grills, plenty of Suja Juices and 10 Barrel Beers and a huge silent auction + raffle. Saturday September 29 participants will skate-bike-roll along the coast of Los Angeles starting at the Santa Monica Pier and ending at Dive-n-Surf in Redondo Beach. Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome.
