From Santa Monica Close Up:

"In an unusual turn of events on Friday, December 8, 2023, a group of surfers at Venice Pier found themselves in a bind after accidentally locking their keys inside their car. Fortunately, Los Angeles Park Rangers, proficiently trained in handling such situations, came to their aid. Utilizing a slim jim, the rangers skillfully opened the car door, much to the surfers' relief. Overwhelmed with gratitude, the surfers offered to compensate the rangers for their help. However, in a heartwarming display of public service, the rangers declined any payment, stating that such assistance is part of their duty and comes at no cost. This act of kindness and professionalism highlights the diverse roles park rangers play in serving the community."

"I’m just visiting and thought I’d take the metro out to Santa Monica and we hit (got hit by?) a car a few blocks from the station. Eventually someone popped a door open on my car and we all hopped down and out.

I had a great time walking to Venice and back still, and then on my train ride home some dude was smoking crack so I’d say it was a pretty solid outing overall."

According to Big Blue Bus spokesperson Robert McCall, the crash happened at the intersection of Lincoln Boulevard and Michigan Avenue. While the bus driver was taken to the hospital, no passengers required hospitalization. Riders were transferred to another bus and taken to their destination.

According to a witness, the bus was going to fast and tried to aviod hitting cars by swerving towards the curb.

Riding recklessly on a scenic road is certainly not worth the risk of hitting a $2 million electric hypercar, which is the fastest production vehicle ever made.

Rimac has just begun customer deliveries of the Nevera this month, and the first owner to take delivery of the electric hypercar is none other than 2016 F1 world champion Nico Rosberg.

Rimac will build only 150 Nevera customer cars, each priced from a whopping €2 million (the equivalent of $2,030,250 at today's exchange rate). While Nico Rosberg took delivery of chassis #001 painted Stellar Black, there's also a Callisto Green Nevera #000 that Rimac has been using for marketing and test drive purposes—the last time we saw it was at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this summer.

It looks like this particular car was involved in a crash on the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica, California, on August 12, according to the uploader of a video that showed the aftermath of the accident.

In the footage taken by a driver who passed by the scene and shared on TikTok, we can see a Yamaha motorcycle with a smashed front end lying on the asphalt behind the Rimac Nevera, which appears to have only minor damage on the rear bumper.

Next to the bike we can see the rider standing on his knees as he was probably feeling dizzy after the crash—not to mention realizing he had just hit a $2 million hypercar. The rider's state likely indicates that the video was taken immediately after impact. Thankfully, neither he nor the occupants of the Nevera were hurt.

We can hear the video's author telling the Nevera's passenger that the bikers had been "riding crazy down this whole PCH," which tells us quite a bit about the circumstances of the accident. It's not uncommon to see riders weave through traffic at high speed on this scenic highway and even race each other. Needless to say, this dangerous behavior often leads to crashes.

That said, the minor repairs required will probably cost tens of thousands of dollars, including shipping costs to Croatia where the factory and workshop are located. We just hope this isn't one of the two Neveras that Rimac plans to show at The Quail on August 19 or at least not the one that was supposed to embark on a US tour shortly after.

Friday afternoon in Marina Del Rey.

At 11:39PM, LA Lifeguards were dispatched to a vessel that had run aground near the Venice Pier. Large south swell contributed to the vessel going ashore. Both people on board were able to self rescue without injury. Baywatch Rescue Boats and land based lifeguards were able to rig up and tow the vessel offshore this morning. Dewatering and overhaul operations were conducted by Baywatch crews due to prop damage. The vessel was successfully salvaged and towed to the marina for an emergency haul out.
