A large, long period west-northwest swell originating from a storm in the Gulf of Alaska will bring high surf to many west and northwest-facing beaches in southwest California through Sunday. Surf will peak tonight through Saturday. A High Surf Advisory is in effect through Sunday for many west and northwest facing beaches from San Luis Obispo County southward to LA County. Additional beach erosion will be possible, especially on the Central Coast. Dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves can also be expected. Swimmers and inexperienced surfers should stay out of the water. Beachgoers should also stay off of rock walls and jetties. Also remember to never turn your back on the ocean.
