Seven people were injured as a result of a five-car traffic collision. Two were transported in critical condition. It appears 5 patients declined transport.

The crash happened just before 9 p.m. at 14800 Pacific Coast Highway. Details remain limited and it’s unclear what caused the collision, authorities said.

"On April 15, 2023, in honor of Earth Day, 750 volunteers came together at Santa Monica Beach to participate in Heal the Bay's annual Nothin' But Sand Beach Cleanup. The event aimed to raise awareness about the need to protect our planet's coastal waters and watersheds. During the cleanup, the volunteers worked tirelessly to collect litter from the beach, including plastic bottles, food wrappers, cigarette butts, and other debris. Together, they picked up 291 pounds of trash, making a significant impact on the environment."

All westbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway were closed at Las Flores Canyon Road due to a traffic collision. The incident occurred around 1:50 p.m. on Thursday and the closure lasted for about 2 hours. LA County Fire Department was on the scene.

Around 3 p.m. Wednesday, police closed a portion of the Venice boardwalk as a man, presumed to be mentally ill, barricaded himself inside a business in the 1100 block of Ocean Front Walk.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the man began breaking glass inside the business, then holed up inside the market.

Witnesses at the scene reportedly heard the man speaking incoherently before entering the market.

A mental-health negotiation team was dispatched to the scene. At 4:37 p.m., LAPD reported that the man was in custody and there were no injuries.
