From Santa Monica Close Up:

Los Angeles Police Officers (LAPD) swiftly responded to a distress call reporting a burglary at a residence in the scenic Venice Canals early Friday morning, on September 8, 2023. According to the victim, a brazen intruder unlawfully entered their home via the doggy door, leading to a series of unsettling events.

The victim detailed the harrowing experience. They initially suspected a break-in through the sliding door but later discovered that the intruder had been accessing their residence through the doggy door. In a statement, the victim mentioned that they woke up to find the intruder inside their home, in possession of some of their belongings.

The situation took a dramatic turn when the suspect made a hasty exit, once again utilizing the doggy door as her escape route. Undeterred, the victims immediately dialed 911 to report the incident and began following the fleeing intruder.

Their determined pursuit led them to the Pacific Avenue area in Venice, approximately a mile from the scene of the crime. The victims diligently stayed on the suspect's trail, providing real-time updates to the LAPD, who arrived promptly to apprehend the suspect.

During the course of the ordeal, the victims realized that their keys were missing, prompting concerns that this may not have been an isolated incident. They suspect that other neighbors in the Venice Canals community may have fallen prey to similar break-ins.

The intruder displayed erratic behavior, leading the victims to believe that she might have been under the influence.

The LAPD has taken the suspect into custody, and she is currently facing charges in connection with the burglary.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement promptly. It would be prudent for residents to exercise caution and adopt essential measures to safeguard their homes and possessions, such as securing doggy doors to discourage unauthorized entry.

As this case continues to unfold, the LAPD is working diligently to ensure the safety and security of the Venice Canals community.

Due to a recent sewage discharge in Ballona Creek the following beaches are now closed:

- Charlie Beach
- Venice Beach: 1/2 mile N of Ballona Creek
- Dockweiler State Beach: 1/2 mile S of Ballona Creek.

Public Health officials are advising residents or visitors planning to visit Los Angeles County beaches to avoid contact with ocean water and wet sand in the areas noted above.

The cause of the sewage discharge was due to a blockage in a wastewater line which resulted in sewage entering the storm drain at the corner of Slauson and La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles. The wastewater line has been stopped and the immediate area cleaned.

The Department of Public Health will conduct water sampling daily, and the closures will remain in effect until Public Health receives sampling results indicating that bacterial levels meet health standards.
