From Santa Monica Close Up:

"In an unusual turn of events on Friday, December 8, 2023, a group of surfers at Venice Pier found themselves in a bind after accidentally locking their keys inside their car. Fortunately, Los Angeles Park Rangers, proficiently trained in handling such situations, came to their aid. Utilizing a slim jim, the rangers skillfully opened the car door, much to the surfers' relief. Overwhelmed with gratitude, the surfers offered to compensate the rangers for their help. However, in a heartwarming display of public service, the rangers declined any payment, stating that such assistance is part of their duty and comes at no cost. This act of kindness and professionalism highlights the diverse roles park rangers play in serving the community."

Mike, aka German in Venice, vlogs about daily life in Venice Beach, and the nearby communities.

" Today they started with Spot cleaning on Venice Beach. Then they went down to Rose Avenue in Venice, where they have a huge homeless encampmentent on the sidewalk in front of Whole Foods. Everybody was given 15 minutes to pack their stuff then they started cleaning up doing the cleanup. I happen to walk to Gold's Gym in Venice and met my idol, Arnold Schwarzenegger."

"In a concerning incident that took place early on Thursday, December 7, 2023, Santa Monica Police Department reported the arrest of a suspect in connection with the stabbing of a homeless man near the 1500 block of Fourth Street. The event occurred around 7am when two officers, assigned to a transit detail, were approached by the injured victim, also identified as homeless.

The victim, who suffered non-life-threatening wounds, was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical care. Officers quickly set up a perimeter and used security camera footage from the area to identify the suspect, who is also homeless. The suspect was found nearby and arrested, found in possession of what is suspected to be the knife used in the assault.

The suspect is expected to face charges under California Penal Code §245(a)(1), Assault With A Deadly Weapon. This law addresses assaults committed with a deadly weapon or with force likely to cause great bodily harm. Additionally, the possibility of attempted murder charges is being evaluated, pending a review of the case by the City attorney."
