It's a go! June 24 & 25 have been called as the run dates for the first stop of the Surf Relik Modern & Classic Longboard World Tour at First Point, Malibu. Head over to Malibu for a one-of-a-kind experience where art, culture and the world’s best longboard surfers intertwine.

The Santa Monica Pier Paddle is now called the Santa Monica Pier 360 Ocean Sports & Beach Festival . And the name isn't the only thing new, it's now a 2-day event and they added an "epic, gravity-defying skate experience", whatever that means. Here's the press release about the skateboard event:

Red Bull is bringing an epic, gravity-defying skate experience to Pier 360 featuring local legend, Jeff Ho, and top skaters from around Los Angeles. Attendees can watch skaters 360 over the Pacific and if they want to get in on the action, they can attend demos and workshops led by local skate legends.

It all happens on June 23-24. The SUP and Paddleboard contest registrations are open now, no word on the skate event yet.
Tracing its roots back to the 1930’s Santa Monica Pier paddleboard races, some of the first in the world, the Santa Monica Pier 360 offers epic competition through a variety of disciplines on sand and sea while also providing an memorable day of family friendly entertainment.

There are many ways to participate: Short Course Paddle, Long Course Paddle, Elite Races, SUP / Paddleboard Knockout, Ocean Swimming Events, Volleyball and Skateboarding.

On the Pier Deck and beach, participants and spectators will enjoy the Beach Festival featuring live music, Polynesian dancing, food, Beer & Spirits Garden and a one of-a-kind Museum of Beach Culture, featuring surf & skate history from the past 100 years!

Not ready to compete? Join in on the festivities and enjoy front row seats to this incredible athletic performance! Thanks to our beautiful city and awesome sponsors, it’s FREE.

The city of Los Angeles stopped the Odd Squad Car Club from hosting their beach front car show from taking place in the Venice Beach parking lot, so they moved it to Santa Monica, which as any true local from either area will tell you, is actually Dogtown. LOts of cool cars and trucks show up at each show, and being at the beach, many are surf rides.

Check out the last show in our Dogtown Rumble Coverage .

Back in 2004 while on Ozzfest, Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe kept posting photos of himself attempting to surf. When DevilDriver frontman Dez Fafara saw them, he reached out and said they needed to ride the waves together, and they've been doing so ever since. Revolver recently joined the two singers in Malibu, California, to get an inside look at their love of surfing and how that love has bonded them together. "Surfing is a lifestyle," says Fafara, whose family started SunCult, a surfing board, wax and apparel brand. "It's the one thing that's kept me grounded," he adds. Blythe agrees. "Surfing is more about opening up myself to my surroundings and staying in the moment. There's not really much more of a visceral way to connect with the planet than riding waves."

It's official: The waiting period of the Surf Relik First Point, Malibu event has begun! The time frame between now and June 25 allows the event to take advantage of the best possible windows for commencing 2018’s Relik Modern + Classic Longboard World Tour.

Surf Relik has been keeping a close eye on two storms in the South Pacific that will send some classic summer lines to the famed right hander. Stay tuned here for updates and which days the events are running!
