Does anyone still shop at Pac Sun anymore? Well, if you do, here's the press release they sent out about their new "Landmark" store in Downtown LA:

In a first-of-its-kind retail move, PacSun announces the opening of bicoastal landmark stores in Los Angeles and New York City. Each retail space will channel the energy, history, and native talent of its locale, while working together to amplify PacSun’s core values of a lifestyle brand, curating relevant brands and style from youth culture.

“While the evolving retail environment dictates many brands to reduce the number of their physical locations, it is equally as important for PacSun to invest in new physical spaces to give our customers the experiences that they want from the brand,” says PacSun President Alfred Chang.

The recently opened LA store has 5,000 square feet of space, referencing Downtown LA’s ongoing renaissance. New York’s 8,000 square foot boutique will be located in an historic Soho storefront, slated to open on March 2.

“Soho NY and Downtown LA are epicenters of fashion and art,” says Chief Merchandising Officer Brie Olson. “We want to honor each city’s energy by bringing the best of PacSun’s design, exclusive offerings, and creative experiences straight to the source.”

Besides selling exclusive PacSun collaborations – including upcoming lines with Playboy and Fear Of God Essentials – these landmark stores will have a dedicated “White Space” for a revolving flow of pop-up shops, workshops, performances, panels, and exhibits that brands and influencers will curate on a bi-monthly basis. Interactive video screens will search and showcase PacSun’s many collections, while the Los Angeles location features a dedicated denim room with 40 different denim styles.

“Our customers are young and informed,” says Chang. “Of course, digital connection is critical for our shoppers, but above convenience, PacSun fans crave community, and they use personal style and real-life experiences to help create theirs. We will continue to invest in strategic physical spaces – as well as innovations within the digital space – to provide our customers the forum for that community. Our aim is to bring the best of PacSun and the most exciting global trends and brands together in our landmark stores and digital platforms.”

Malibu Sharks Surf Team member Saxon Rhodes surfed her way to a first-place finish as two groups of Sharks surfers grabbed wins in the team’s last event of the season.

Rhodes, a senior and seasoned youth surfer, won the women’s shortboard bracket in the Scholastic Surf Series meet at the Tarpits in Carpinteria on Feb. 1. She outlasted five other surfers at the top of the division, including a teammate, to lead the Malibu Black squad (surfers at the top skill level) to a 60-27 victory over Palisades. The Malibu White group also won, downing Oak Park, 43-41.

Contending in the exhibition were surf squads also from Loyola, Oaks Christian, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica and Westlake high schools. The teenage wave riders vied in shortboard, longboard and bodyboard surfing brackets on waves that were around five or six feet in height.

The event was the fifth competition since October for the teams, which are all in the surf series’ LA to Santa Barbara High School division.

Vanessa Clark, also a Malibu Black member, placed one spot behind Rhodes in the women’s shortboard, while Malibu White surfer Whitney Shanahan placed fourth and her teammate Chole Rapf finished fifth. In the coed bodyboard, Malibu Black member Gavin Cross finished second and Malibu White surfer Kai Owens finished third. Malibu Black members Evan Kassoy and Sebastian Bluhm placed fourth and fifth in the men’s shortboard, respectively, and Cross finished third in the men’s longboard. Maxine Kelly, a Malibu Black surfer, finished fifth in women’s longboard, and Nicky Chittendon, a Malibu White member, finished sixth. "West Coast Surfers Rejoice This Week", according to Surfline.

"California produces some nice surf through the middle of the week off a mix of northwest and south-southwest swells, ranging from fun-size in Southern California to fairly solid in parts of Central and Northern California. Morning winds and conditions also look favorable for most areas."

"Last year we bought a ’94 stretch limo and headed down the East Coat of the USA making the film ‘This Way’. As soon as the trip was done we all wanted to do it again…so we did. This time we fired up the ol' girl and headed west. With Nora Vasconcellos, Laura Enever, Jaleesa Vincent and special guests Shanae Collins and Malibu's Frankie Harrer. We drove across dusty roads from Texas to California. Skateboarding and Surfing our way through small towns, snow capped mountains and desert plains."
