The 9th Annual Holiday Lighting of the Venice Sign is happening and it is going virtual! Join the Venice Chamber of Commerce and Venice community on Saturday, December 5th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, virtually on any device by tuning in to facebook.com/VeniceChamber



The one hour program will be hosted by long-time Emcee and Venetian Mike Newhouse, and will feature holiday messages from some of Venice’s favorite restaurants and bars. Event highlights include presentations to the winners of the 2020 My Venice Holiday poster contest and an award honoring the 2020 Venice Local Hero. The celebration continues at 7:15 pm with the traditional countdown to pull the symbolic switch lighting the iconic Venice sign in red and green colored bulbs. This year, the Venice Chamber is excited to welcome Jon Huertas, joining as the special guest who will light the Sign and usher in the holiday season. Jon will join past celebrity residents Robert Downey Jr, Angelica Huston, P!nk, Robby Kreiger of The Doors, Matthew Modine, Andy Summers of The Police and Emmy-nominated actress Linda Cardinelli. Announcing the @black.surfers Cam Rewind Contest, sponsored by Surfline, where 8 contestants will win 1-year premium Surfline memberships (over $95 value)!

The competition starts November 10, and runs till December 10. Only cam rewind videos from that time period will be eligible, and only those in @black.surfers chats are eligible to submit videos (DM @black.surfers if you're not already a part of one).

There will be two winners (men's and women's) in these four contests: most shredded wave, best noseriding, biggest wave, and best wipeout! Submit your videos by DMing @black.surfers or emailing blacksurferinc@gmail.com with your video, the cam name, date and which @black.surfers chat you belong to. @black.surfers will be posting sets of videos every few days.

At the end, Selema and Nique Miller will be the judges to determine who the winners are!

On Monday evening, a car crashed on Topanga Canyon Road, knocking down a power pole and starting a brush fire. Lost Hills Sheriff's Station reported that Topanga Canyon will be closed from PCH to Fernwood, while Edison works on down power pole.






According to Surfline: Steep SSE swell nudges up as minimal NW swell limps in.

Monday, November 30th: 1-2’, top S facing breaks see 3’ sets. Light wind in AM.
Minor leftovers from the NW with steep SSE swell slowly creeping up. Size is mostly in the knee-thigh high zone for better winter spots. Steep SSE swell nudges up further, passing by most zones while pushing parts of OC into waist high+ surf with parts of North LA also seeing some sets around the waist high mark as well. Lighter/variable wind for the morning for most breaks compared to the past couple of days, starting to veer onshore out of the WNW around midday with widespread light+ to locally moderate flow by mid-afternoon.

Tuesday, December 1st: 2-3’, top S and NW facing breaks see some 4’ sets. Light wind..
Steep SSE swell picks up further as a fresh pulse of steep NW swell also moves in. Size is mostly in the knee-thigh high zone for average winter spots, pushing waist high for better spots while focal points through Ventura and South SD see chest high sets Light/variable wind in the morning for most breaks, starting to veer onshore out of the WNW around midday but looking pretty light through the afternoon.

LA County is issuing another Safer At Home Order, effective Monday 11/30/2020.



The beaches and skateparks are staying open.

Basically, this new Order is for businesses to operate at even lower capacities. It is just another of the LA County Pubic Health's unscientific guidelines that has no data to back it up.

"Today on Thanksgiving Day on Venice Beach they set up a couple tents to give out free Thanksgiving lunch for the homeless people. They pass out care packages with snacks, drinks, groceries, facemasks, and hand sanitizer. Everybody practiced social distancing it was a beautiful day, beautiful weather. Happy Thanksgiving to everybody."

According to Surfline: Steep NW swell slowly winds down through the weekend

Today, November 26th: 3′, top NW exposures see 4’+ sets. Minor SSW swell. Developing Santa Ana’s.
Fresh pulse of slightly larger, steeply angled NW swell trends up through the day. Size is mostly in the waist-high zone for average winter spots, pushing stomach high for the better breaks with the occasional chest high set possible through the afternoon. Light/variable to light offshore flow early though southernmost Ventura into western North LA could become breezy by about 8-9am.

Friday, November 27th: 3′, top NW exposures see 4’+ sets. Minor SSW swell. Breezy Santa Ana’s.
Steep-angled NW swell holds early then eases through the balance of the day. Size is mostly in the waist-high zone for average winter spots, pushing stomach-chest high for the better breaks. Robust offshore flow through southern Ventura into North LA. Wind trends onshore from the WNW and builds for the afternoon.

Saturday, November 28th: 2-3’, top NW exposures see some 4’ sets in AM. Minimal SSW swell. Light offshore wind in AM.
Steep-angled NW swell continues to wind down. Size is mostly in the knee to waist-high zone for average winter spots. Offshore flow is due to return for the morning, on the lighter side for Southern Ventura through the South Bay. Expecting light/variable flow for most by midday with onshore WNW wind for the afternoon.
