Around 11:35am on Thursady, a flatbed work truck carrying a load of scaffolding driving downhill on Chautauqua towards Pacific Coast Highway crossed over the oncoming lane and into the building that is at the corner of Chautauqua and West Chanel Road where they meet PCH.
The driver was trapped inside the truch for about 2 hours as a crew of roughly 35 Los Angeles Fire Fighters worked to free him. Using using hydraulic tools, known as the Jaws of Life, to cut into the trapped flatbed truck's cab, they pulled the driver out, and he was taken to a local hospital. No information on his condition is avaliable.
“It’s not your typical traffic accident,” said LAFD public information officer Captain Anthony Tubbs. “You have the building issue and the concern of stability, and then you have the vehicle, which is in itself impaled and damaged.”
No one was inside the building at the time of the crash.
The truck belongs to IVO Wall Experts, a drywall contractor based in City of Commerce. It was removed from the building with a crane.
As of Thursdsay afternoon, the streets remain closed as the cause of the accident remains under investigation. Photo above is fron LAFD.
