You're invited to our 2nd Annual Dia de Los Muertos Exhibition and Celebration taking place on Tuesday, November 1 from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm and Wednesday, November 2nd from 5:30pm - 9:30pm!

Santa Monica Pier pays tribute to the cultural tradition of Dia de Los Muertos – Day of the Dead– with a two-day public art installation taking honoring people, places, and ideas that are important to Santa Monican’s through free, family-friendly programming. Presented in partnership with the City of Santa Monica, Pico Youth & Family Center, and Mariasol, Santa Monica Pier’s Dia de Los Muertos Celebration is a community-oriented space located inside the Merry Go-Round building, inviting Pier-goers to contribute to the community altar as well as to view the altars made by local artists, Sylvia Sanchez and Daniel Alonso. This year, we will also be bringing back Letters of Life, an art installation where we ask members of the community to share their favorite Pier memories and anecdotes of family and friends who have passed. These memories will decorate our space via our digital murals that surround the historic 100-year-old Carousel and will be displayed over the course of our celebration.

A perfect day in Malibu...again! Start off the day with a morning surf. Then, Kyle, Brian, Brandon, and I get rowdy at first point. We end the evening with full on Golden Hour at third point. Author Patrick presents the history of George Freeth who brought surfing to Venice Beach and all of Southern California. In the early 1900s, Freeth taught surfing and swimming, including coaching legendary waterman and Olympian Duke Kahanamoku. While working for visionary Abbot Kinney in Venice, and at beaches and bath houses in San Diego, Long Beach, Redondo, and Santa Monica, Freeth established modern lifeguarding practices still in use today. He transformed the beach into a destination for fun, sport, and excitement.

LOTS OF FAMILY FUN

Fun tents full of activities like face painting and tattoos will ensure the day is just as super for young people, the non-volleyball set, and even passersby. Purchase an activities punchcard for access to it all at a great value, or pay ad hoc along the way for just the items you choose.
