It looks like one of the surfer looters from last month has been arrested. The mug shot the SMPD released appears to match that of the person who stole a surfboard and other stuff from Patagonia.



Amanda Toyono Van Duyse, 31, of Los Angeles was arrested earlier this month for burglary, grand theft and burglary during an emergency, said Lt. Joseph Cortez, the Santa Monica Police Department spokesman.

Van Duyse's arrest came after police served a search warrant in the City of Los Angeles and "located thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise stolen from Santa Monica businesses," Cortez said.

Santa Monica Police Chief Cynthia Renaud, who by the way not only did a piss poor job of protecting the city, but also, along with her cronies, has been lying her ass off trying to hide the fact that she did such a bad job, well this poor excuse for a police chief chimed in with this statement: “We are dedicated to bringing those responsible for the crimes committed on May 31 to justice and are working in collaboration with our partner agencies, to locate, arrest and prosecute those who committed acts of violence and theft in our community."

Amanda is being held in jail with a $100,000 bail.

As for the rest of the looted surfboards from Patagonia, most have been returned to the store, according to various posts on Instagram. One of the looters was even called out and identified publicly within minutes of all the videos of him hit Instagram.

There's was more police activity at the Venice Pier Wednesday morning.

According to Venice 311, an LAPD helicopter spotted a person with a gun in his waistband and radioed in for officers to go get him.

After a quick chase and a somersault, he was apprehended.

It ended up being a toy gun.

The two big 4th Of July events in Santa Monica have been cancelled.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic and restrictions of large-scale, in-person events, the parade down Main St has been cancelled by the city, and Santa Monica College has cancelled their pre-holiday fireworks show.

"It is particularly disappointing that Celebrate America had to be canceled this year, at a time when we at Santa Monica College would love to gather with our community," Dr. Kathryn E. Jeffery, SMC Superintendent/President, said in a news release. "We look forward to future occasions, when we may celebrate with confidence, to host events safely. Please take care of yourself. Stay well. Stay strong! Stay connected."

“I can’t predict when events like Celebrate America will be allowed to resume, or when folks will begin to feel comfortable in crowds again,” said Linda Sullivan, SMC Event Producer and Associate Dean of Facilities Programming. “But when they do, they will be greeted with the greatest enthusiasm.”

On June 12, 2020, LA County released this updated set on Beach Rules ALLOWED:

- Individual or family ocean activities (such as surfing, swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding and body surfing)
- Individual or family active recreation & exercise (such as walking, running and using the beach bike path)
- Sunbathing, sitting and lying on sand
- Picnicking
- Chairs, canopies or coolers
- Fishing

NOT ALLOWED:

- Beach volleyball
- Group or organized sports (such as volleyball)
- Gatherings or events


HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: - More than 6 feet physical distance from others at all times (except between members of same household)
- Face coverings, when out of the water AND around others (except for children under age 2 and those with breathing problems)
- Stay at home if you, or someone you live with, is sick

Jacks Surfboards in Santa Monica is open 10am -8pm.

Masks are required to be worn while shopping. If you do not have a mask, no problem, they will be providing complimentary disposable masks. There will be a strict limit on max occupancy. In addition, each store will have staff on-site cleaning and sanitizing throughout the day. Jacks will be following all of the guidelines and protocols set by the County.

Today, the owners of the event, IMG, and Van's, who is the main sponsor, have officially cancelled the US Open Of Surfing that was scheduled to take place the first week of August.

Even though the fools at WSL had already announced the "surfing world is on hold" and their CT tour for 2020 would not happen, it wasn't till today that the QS & Juniors Huntington Beach event, which also includes BMX and skateboarding contests, had been officially cancelled.



Besides being a Coachealla for kooks, and 909er bros, the US Open did have a longboard invitational, a Life Rolls On Expression Session, and the skate and BMX contests.



But surfing competitions are still going to be happening down at the HB Pier, the NSSA contests are going on still.

The Nation Scholastic Surfing Association announced its coveted national championships will be held at the Huntington Beach Pier.

The 2020 West Coast regional championships have been given the go-ahead for July 9-12 at the pier, and the nationals are slated to follow Aug. 1-8.

“The kids have been just going crazy not having the jersey on. It’s their lifestyle,” she said. “I’ve been working really diligently with the city of Huntington Beach, just keeping completely updated regarding when we can get back up and running, safely. I just got the word this morning from the city of Huntington Beach that we are able to push forward with our championship event. It made my year.”

Though most big events have canceled for the year, Aragon said she “held out hope” and was going to hold off as long as she could to avoid canceling.

The championships draw the top young talent from across the United States, though some competitors may have trouble traveling, or may not want to with coronavirus concerns still lingering, she said.

She said the organization will adopt whatever safety protocols they have to, looking to the state, county and city for guidance.
