Up next, the Girls Surf heat. One heat of 9 surfers, ages 18 and under.
With some decent sized waves, all the girls were doing great, but this heat was dominated by Santa Monica's Emily Flavin in the yellow jersey going against Laney Brooks of Virginia Beach, Virginia, wearing the green jersey. On her longboard, Emily gracefully glided along some of the contest's longest waves. In contrast, Laney aggressively charged the waves, getting barrelled and attacking the lip.
