The iconic Santa Monica board shop secures a new lease, extensive new renovations, and will reopen in the Spring of 2021. The temporary store will remain open for business in adjacent building next door, during the renovation.

Boardriders Inc. is pleased to announce a new go-forward lease and substantial renovation of its iconic ZJ Boarding House in Santa Monica – a pillar of the local community for more than three decades.

Working closely with the building’s landlord and local leaders, a new five-year lease has been signed and major renovations are underway at the original corner location on Main Street and Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica. These steps ensure ZJ’s ongoing service to the community in all things boardriding for the foreseeable future.

“What a silver lining at the end of such a challenging year,” says Todd Roberts, co-founder of ZJ. “ZJ Boarding House is such an integral part of the community and we can’t thank our customers enough for their patience and support of us over the years. Thanks to the hard work of the community, of Boardriders, and of our landlord, we now have a plan in place that will continue to make this space the ultimate destination for everyone looking to have fun in and around the ocean, the mountains and beyond.”

After the Main Street renovations, which include the replacement of the roof, seismic retrofits, and substantial interior upgrades, the entire 4,900 square foot space will be open and ready to share the stoke in just a few months’ time. “Spring 2021 can’t come soon enough,” says Ajai Datta, who leads US retail operations for Boardriders. “We’re all looking to turn the page on challenging year that will ultimately make us stronger in the long run.”


The rumors are true, ZJ Boarding House officially announced that they will reopen.

The shop closed it's doors back in August due to the landlord and Boardriders (the mega-corp that now owns ZJ) not being able to agree on the new lease. But, now it appears they were able to come to an agreement, as a new 5-year has been signed.

The doors to the newly remodeled will reopen in Spring 2021, after the buidling undergoes the much needed seismic retrofits and gets a new roof.

Until then, ZJ has set up in a "temporary" shop next door to the original location. They are open for business right now.



This is what LA's coastline could have looked like had city planners from the 1950s/60s actually had their proposed futurist projects been built. Historically these projects were blocked or defunded through protests, environmental concerns, and budget cuts..


Last 2 days for the Spooky Light Show at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier. Spooky characters and seasonal colors from till 11/2 and there is offerings of candy corn-flavored cotton candy, fall-inspired drinks and treats and more!

Santa Monica Cultural Affairs is accepting submissions from Santa Monica nonprofits, businesses and Los Angeles artists for art and culture projects as part of the City of Santa Monica’s economic recovery efforts. Cultural Affairs has launched a new Art of Recovery initiative to harness the power of the arts in the City’s economic, community, and health recovery efforts.

Art of Recovery is launching with a pair of projects at some of the City’s most notable locations, Main Street, Santa Monica Pier, and Downtown. Local artists will transform the plain k-rail concrete safety dividers that line Main Street’s al fresco dining and retail experience into colorful works of art to create a vibrant destination and corridor.

The Santa Monica Beach Restoration Pilot Project of approximately three acres aims to return a healthy and beautiful ecosystem to this beach, which in turn, will address climate change issues for both humans and wildlife. The project will evaluate increased protection for our coastal infrastructure and residences from sea level rise and erosion, while also providing a vital refuge for invertebrates, birds, and rare coastal vegetation species. It will also serve as a model for the region, showing that heavy recreational use of beaches and meaningful habitat restoration are both possible!



This pilot project used low-lying sand fencing and native plant seeds installed in December 2016 to restore a highly impacted beach system with the goal of bringing back a diverse, endemic-rich, coastal plant and wildlife community which has been almost completely eliminated from the Los Angeles region. We believe that the iconic beaches of Santa Monica are a beautiful and important location to try out this restoration project, which utilizes existing sand to transform a portion of the beach into a sustainable coastal strand and foredune habitat complex resilient to sea level rise and wave erosion.



This demonstration site will provide not only a scientific basis to develop guidelines and protocols but an integrated, locally-based program for increasing the usefulness of natural environments in a developed area. It will evaluate “soft” low-cost natural shore protection from sea-level rise and storms while providing public benefits and enhancing natural resource values.

Design aspects feature curved, flowing, low-lying fence lines, a path through the restoration area, and an unenclosed perimeter along the water’s edge. Many of these design components were incorporated to minimize disturbance, and even enhance your interaction with the beach. The site allows visitors to continue to recreate as well as enjoy the local native flora and fauna that are absent along the groomed beaches of the Santa Monica Bay.

A hipster surfer from Orange County was arrested for setting a cop car on fire during the Santa Monica Riots.

Back in June, a wanted poster for the undercover police car arson was issued the FBI and the Santa Monica Police Department, who's incompentant lying Police Cheif Cynthia Renaud allowed the looting to happen in the first place by completely ignoring the numerious warnings sent in via phone calls and messages days prior to the attack on the city.

The wanted poster read, "On Sunday, May 31, 2020, at approximately 5:05 p.m., an unmarked Ford Crown Victoria SMPD vehicle was parked at the loading dock of the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium." The unknown suspect may have been involved in the arson of the vehicle, which was completely engulfed anddestroyed by fire. And it included photos of the suspect in all his hipster glory (see the above photos).

Nathan Wilson, aged 27, was soon ratted out by his friends. They told the investigators they had driven him to Santa Monica that day, most likely becuase his beloved junky ass Surfer Jeep wasn't working (photos of that Pep-Boys outfitted thing are down below). His friend even showed the investigators Nathan’s Instagram account “yup_i_eat_crayons”, which had him in a selfie in front of the burning police car. He even had the same "Don Pisto" Mexican bar hat on in his profile photo that he is seen wearing in the wanted poster.

That still wasn't enough for them to slap the cuffs on him.

It wasn't till he became a suspect in another vehicle arson that they decided they should arrest him.

This gun nut was in a domestic disputed with whom the cops are calling his "live-in partner", and he went a set his partner's vehicle on fire.

When the FBI went to arrest him at his Irvine home, they found this hipster surfer coward hiding in a matress box spring. They also recovered several items of clothing that directly links him to the Santa Monica arson.

Nathan is now charged in a federal criminal complaint with malicious damage to property owned by an institution or organization receiving federal financial assistance, and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison and a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years.

Santa Monica is honoring Día de los Muertos, highlighting the traditional Mexican cultural celebration of life and death, with a larger than the after-life art installation on Third Street Promenade & Santa Monica Pier.

Sculptures of La Catrina, one of Día de los Muertos' most recognizable figures, by Los Angeles-based artist Ricardo Soltero will be viewable at nine locations throughout the Promenade and four locations on the Pier beginning Saturday, October 31 - Monday, November 2.



Soltero's iconic sculptures of La Catrina range up to 14 feet in height and welcome guests to the Promenade and Pier in brightly colored traditional Mexican attire inspired by Day of the Dead traditions and Mexican icons and embroidery. La Catrina was first born out of Mexican social satire and has become a well-known figure in celebration of the holiday.

WHEN:
Saturday, October 31 - Monday, November 2
Third Street Promenade sculptures to be on display from 10 am - 8 pm

WHERE:
La Catrina sculptures are viewable at nine locations on Third Street Promenade and four locations on the Santa Monica Pier.

PARKING:
Parking is widely available in the downtown structures including the Santa Monica Public Library or Parking Structures 9 and 10 just north of Wilshire Boulevard. Biking, walking and public transit are encouraged.

About Ricardo Soltero
Mexican artist Ricardo Soltero is the director and stage-set designer behind the largest Day of the Dead celebration in the United States, which takes place annually at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. Born in Nayarit, Mexico, Ricardo has introduced color and culture to exhibits and fundraisers throughout the country with papier-mâché, wood, fiberglass, recycled materials and most importantly, his heritage at the forefront of each piece.

LA Graffiti Pioneer RISK talks to Pep Williams - Fine Art Photographer - 3rd Generation DogTown Skater - World Traveler. Risk and Pep talk about art, photography, Venice Beach and Graffiti.

Pep Williams is a self-taught African-American fine art and street photographer, director, entrepreneur, philanthropist and former professional skateboarder who grew up in South Central Los Angeles, California. He has traveled globally creating material for his photography exhibitions, which often feature real life portraits of heavily tattooed individuals. He is one of the only photographers we has ever been granted access into the California State Prison System where he created a series of inmate portraits titled - Out Of Bounds.

But city has let the meth zombie army takeover several parks, which will still make the unsafe for children and adults. That's something Interim City Manager Lane Dilg will refuse to address.

From a statement on the SMPD Facebook page:
"On Thursday September 17, 2020, officers from the Santa Monica Police Department served search warrants at two locations within the City of Los Angeles. The search warrants were related to looting activity during the civil unrest in Santa Monica on May 31, 2020. Officers monitored video footage from REI, located at 402 Santa Monica, and observed two individuals stealing items from the store. Officers were able to identify two subjects, Marques Miles and Misty Jones (both residents of Los Angeles) during the investigation. Officers obtained warrants to search the residences of both subjects and recovered approximately $2,500 worth of property stolen from REI. Both Milers and Jones were arrested and booked for Burglary (459 PC) and Burglary during State of Emergency (463 (a) PC). Bail was set at $50,000 each."

But it should not be forgotten, that the Santa Monica Police Department allowed the looting to happen, and the fact that the Santa Monica Police Chief and several city council members blatantly lied about what happened.

One of the key figures in the early evolution of skateboarding from a wholesome, contest based "sport" into the freewheeling art form that it is today was Tony Alva.

Tony is now 63 years old, the oldest professional skateboarder in the world, is considered by many to be the godfather of modern day skateboarding. Alva’s brand of aggression and bravado in the 70’s set the stage for the way skateboarding would be forever defined.

Vans’ The Tony Alva Story chronicles T.A.’s humble beginnings on the streets of Santa Monica to his rise to superstardom as part of the legendary Z-Boys, his inevitable drug-induced implosion and his ultimate rise from the ashes to accept his rightful place as a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations of skateboarders the world over.

ATF Offers $5K Reward for Information on Retail Arsons in Santa Monica, and releases video of this P.O.S. setting the fire.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information related to the arrest of the person responsible for starting fires at several businesses in Santa Monica during the looting that the incompetent lying Santa Monica Police Chief Cynthia Renaud allowed to happen.



One fire was started at Santa Monica Tobacco, located at 1434 Fourth St., around 3:20 p.m., officials said. Another fire was also started the same evening at REI at 402 Santa Monica Blvd. around 3:40 p.m.

The suspect is a black female who has a tattoo of Africa on her left shoulder.

Green at 310-458-8414, or the Watch Commander (24 hours) at 310-458-2249. This investigation is being conducted jointly by the ATF Los Angeles Field Division and Santa Monica Police Department.
