Local Artist Robbed Of $35,000 Of Artwork

Artwork worth $35,000 was stolen from Katie Oneill Fine Art in Pacific Palisades. The the, described by a witness as a black man about 6' tall, broke into the studio around 10:30PM on Saturdday, October 8th.

Oniell posted this:

"My art studio on Antioch was robbed last night (Saturday, October 8 ). I am devastated. The police were called by someone reporting a man breaking the window. I was notified about it around 12:30 by a friend who was driving by the scene. They stole a dozen paintings worth about $35,000. They do not appear to have taken any supplies etc - just the paintings.

After taking my report, the police left me alone on Antioch around 2:00 AM, desperately scrambling to find someone to come out here to board up the window so I could try to keep the rest of my paintings safe. That was a sad, scary hour.

I do not have theft insurance. To get theft insurance you have to put in a security system and pay for the insurance. I am a one woman operation. Any security system comes straight out of my income and, by how much they charge, I'm pretty sure the emergency-board-up guys are making more than I am. I never thought my paintings would be a target for theft. Whoever has them would have to resell them. As much as I love my paintings I know I'm not internationally famous with a black market waiting to snatch them up.

But I do a job that I love. In a community that has been so supportive and helped my business survive during a pandemic and crazy commercial rental market. The people who have bought my paintings have bought them with love - to put in their homes and have them become part of their lives. That is so important to me. And the thought that 12 paintings of mine are lost. It's so personal. I can't even type this without crying. Why would anyone do this?

I'm still a little woozy from adrenaline and no sleep. But if anyone has any ideas of what I can do next. If anyone knows how to contact the businesses on Antioch to see if they have camera footage. I believe it would have been a 9:30 to 12 timeline. I can try and get the time of the 911 call. Or how to get some publicity to have people look out for the paintings. Or how to get the police to actually do something. Any help or ideas would be deeply, deeply appreciated."
